Do you often hesitate before making a decision? Are you prone to procrastination? Mel Robbins, a guru in personal development, might have the solution.

Popularised by her book 'The 5 Second Rule', Mel Robbins' method is simple: as soon as you have a gut feeling, an idea, or an impulse, it invites you to act within 5 seconds. The aim? To combat procrastination and those eternal hesitations that prevent you from taking action.

This method was born on a day of great laziness, when Mel Robbins herself was struggling with her lack of motivation. She had the idea of counting backwards (5…4…3…2…1, GO!) to stop her brain from finding excuses. And there it is, no more dithering, just immediate action.

The idea is to stop thoughts before they obliterate your plan. Want to go for a workout? Yes, but it's raining, you're tired, you don't have the energy to change... And there you go, your brilliant idea is already abandoned. What would have happened if, instead of letting your thoughts wander, you had simply said "5..4..3..2..1, GO! I'm going".

Science is clear: when you think too long about an action, your brain quickly becomes fertile ground for excuses and doubt. The solution? To short-circuit those brain areas that feed your fears and stress. By acting quickly, you create positive habits and instant decision-making.

The benefits? You strengthen your self-confidence, manage your time better, and reduce procrastination.

A slight drawback however: this method isn't to be applied to decisions that are too important, which merit a bit more thought.

Ready to give it a try? 5..4..3..2..1, go for it!
