German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has confirmed: there are no longer "any limitations on the range of weapons supplied to Ukraine".
Whether these weapons are supplied by Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, or France, Merz stated this Monday, during an interview on public television WDR, that the restrictions have been lifted. "This means Ukraine can now defend itself, for example by attacking military positions in Russia […] which it didn't do some time ago, with a few exceptions. It can do so now," he added.
While on the American side these restrictions had already been lifted, the Ukrainians are still being offered new opportunities, particularly thanks to Germany and its Taurus missiles, whose range is a considerable asset.
Capable of reaching the Russian capital
According to the Estonian defence expert blogger, War Translated, the Taurus missile can strike at a distance of 500km and is almost "capable of reaching Moscow". The Ukrainians hope to receive between 100 and 150 units, according to the media outlet L’Indépendant.
And the spokesperson for the Russian presidency, Dmitri Peskov, responded to the news: "If these decisions have really been made, they go absolutely against our aspirations for a political settlement […] And so it 's quite a dangerous decision".
