More than 200 Venezuelans, allegedly linked to gangs, have been deported to a high-security prison in El Salvador, despite a court ruling ordering a temporary halt to the deportations.

Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele announced on social media that 238 members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua and 23 members of MS-13 had arrived in the country.

Neither the United States nor El Salvador has publicly identified the detainees or provided evidence confirming their alleged gang affiliations.

A federal judge argued that the Trump administration could not invoke an 18th-century law to justify the expulsions—yet the planes carrying the detainees had already taken off.

Bukele confirmed that the prisoners have been transferred to El Salvador’s Terrorism Confinement Center, a maximum-security facility known for its strict conditions.
