Mother arrested for selling her baby

The Spanish police have arrested a 37-year-old woman after she sold her newborn baby for 2,000 euros to a couple with fertility problems.

Regretting her actions, she tried to get her child back and eventually informed the police herself. The biological mother was arrested in March in a suburb of Madrid, while the 'buyers' and two accomplices were arrested in Cordoba.

Investigation revealed that the mother had already lost custody of her six other children in 2022 after the Spanish social service filed a complaint for neglect. The newborn girl who was sold was placed under the care of a child protection centre in Cordoba.
