Multiple tornadoes have ravaged the southern United States, leaving at least 26 people dead as more severe weather conditions are expected.

In western Kansas, a sandstorm claimed eight lives after violent winds caused collisions on the I-70 highway, damaging 55 vehicles.

Missouri suffered the highest number of casualties, with 12 people killed as severe storms swept through the state, according to local authorities.

One man lost his life when a tornado obliterated his home. "It was unrecognizable as a home. Just a debris field. The floor was upside down. We were walking on walls," said Butler County Coroner Jim Akers.

In Arkansas, tornadoes left 29 people injured, adding to the widespread destruction across the region.
