NASA has made a surprising discovery beneath the ice of Greenland that could align with Donald Trump’s long-standing ambitions.

Chad Greene, a lead scientist at the U.S. space agency, was flying over the Arctic territory in April of last year when his radar detected the remnants of a long-lost American military base.

Known as Camp Century, the base was used by the U.S. Army during the Cold War, operating between 1959 and 1967. It consisted of around 20 tunnels carved deep beneath Greenland’s ice sheet.

To locate the site, Greene used a radar system designed to map not only the ice sheet’s surface but also its internal layers and the bedrock beneath it.

Since the discovery, the Trump administration has renewed interest in asserting control over the territory — which belongs to Denmark — citing security reasons and, more importantly, the region’s untapped mineral wealth.

The U.S. currently maintains a presence in Greenland through Pituffik Space Base, which was recently visited by an American delegation led by Vice President JD Vance.

Trump has never hidden his interest in acquiring Greenland — even suggesting a possible military intervention to do so.
