Nearly 13 million people in Ukraine need humanitarian aid

Among them, more than 10 million have been displaced, including 3.7 million within the country, according to figures from UN agencies.

Women and girls are particularly vulnerable, exposed to increased violence and denied access to support services. The United Nations agency for sexual and reproductive health warns that cuts to the humanitarian budget, notably following the suspension of foreign aid from the United States in January, will endanger access to services to combat gender-based violence and psychosocial support, according to the report on the UN's website.

Since the start of the year, 1.7 million people have received food aid, medical care, or access to drinking water. About fifteen humanitarian convoys have delivered materials to the most affected populations.

Only 17% of the $2.6 billion (2.4 billion euros) required for humanitarian aid in Ukraine in 2025 has been collected.

The UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Joyce Msuya, made three requests to the international community: "Firstly, the insistence on respecting international humanitarian law, in order to protect civilians and civilian objects, including humanitarian personnel. Secondly, funding to save as many lives as possible and support humanitarian operations in this complex and dangerous context. Thirdly, the end of this war and, until then, sustained efforts to ensure that humanitarian needs are at the forefront of discussions on a pause in the fighting or a longer-term agreement".
