Comprising Soviet-era missiles dating from the Cold War (hence its nickname), mounted on an American “Humvee” transport vehicle, this new weapon is described by the Ukrainian armed forces themselves as "a powerful tool against Shahed or Orlan drones".
The “Dragon H37”, or “Frankenstein” (a reference to its make-up), is also effective against Russian "tactical aircraft". It was the 3rd Assault Brigade of the Ukrainian armed forces that revealed this new asset on its Facebook page. In this post, it's also noted that the weapon is used "24/7". Furthermore, this new military device is fitted with a twin launcher with Soviet R-73 air-to-air missiles, originally developed in the 1980s for fighter jets, according to the Kyiv Post.
Powerful simulators
Also according to the Kyiv Post, operators in charge of the “Frankenstein” will be trained on more modern simulators replicating the exact controls and displays of the "Dragon H37". "Before, we didn't have the chance to sit down, press the same buttons and see the interface. Now, the simulators allow us to train as if we were inside a real vehicle", stressed the commander of the Ukrainian brigade.
