‘America is not Canada’ : New PM Carney berates Trump

Newly sworn-in Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has strongly rejected Donald Trump’s claims that Canada would be better off joining the United States as its 51st state.

Speaking to reporters in Ottawa this week, Carney made it clear that his country would never integrate with the U.S. “America is not Canada. We will never, ever, in any way, shape, or form, be part of the United States,” he said.

Despite the tensions, Carney expressed his willingness to meet with Trump, saying: “We respect the United States. We respect President Trump.”

Beyond Canada, Trump has also set his sights on Greenland, repeatedly suggesting he wants to “annex” the Danish territory. During a recent discussion with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, Trump reiterated his desire to bring Greenland under U.S. control.

In response, outgoing Greenlandic Prime Minister Mute Egede urged Trump to show respect and stop making such remarks about the territory.
