US provocations will be met with ‘overwhelming’ response warns North Korea

North Korea has condemned the joint military exercises conducted by South Korea, Japan, and the United States last week.

The country's state media warned that such maneuvers were seen as provocations that would lead to an "overwhelming response."

South Korea and Japan, both U.S. allies in Asia, are part of the "nuclear umbrella," with thousands of American troops stationed in each country. Since 2023, this trilateral military cooperation has intensified as Pyongyang continues to pursue the development of its nuclear arsenal.

"The enemy states did not take the trouble to conceal the fact that the drill was aimed to check the DPRK's [Democratic People's Republic of Korea's] nuclear and missile capabilities, and its sea defense capability in particular, and deprive it of its maritime sovereignty," the KCNA (Korean Central News Agency) said in a statement on Tuesday.

The media outlet further claimed that the U.S. and its allies were attempting to "restrain" North Korea and "dominate the entire Asian region."
