North Korea glorified the suicidal tactics of its troops sent to fight in Ukraine on its state television, days before North Korean leader Kim Jong-un travelled to Beijing to attend a military parade where he will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin.

To demonstrate its support for Russia, a video broadcast Sunday by KCTV featured examples of fighters using suicidal tactics against Ukrainian soldiers, including blowing themselves up, to avoid capture or save their comrades.

The broadcast described how some North Korean fighters had served as human shields or blocked enemy drones, before showing the names of hundreds of dead people.

Moscow is considering the possibility of a bilateral summit with the North Korean leader. This meeting could take place this week during the expanded meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation hosted by China.

To commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of the war in Beijing, the Chinese leader is planning a large-scale parade on September 3, which will be attended by Kim Jong-un and Vladimir Putin.
