Oscars to introduce new category of winners

The Oscars will present an award for stunt performers, a long-awaited recognition for a profession that has been asking for it for a long time.

This new award will be presented for the first time in 2028, at the 100th Oscars ceremony.

The eligibility and voting rules for the inaugural award will be announced in 2027. More than 100 professional stunt performers are members of the academy's production and technology branch.

"We're proud to honour the innovative work of these technical and creative artists, and we congratulate them on their commitment and dedication on this memorable occasion," said Bill Kramer, CEO of the academy, and Janet Yang, president of the academy, in a statement.

Last year, the academy added casting achievements to its list of awards. The inaugural award for this 'casting' category will be given in 2026 for films released this year.
