Finland, Estonia, and Latvia have already begun preparing for a potential escalation of the conflict against Russia. However, it's in Poland where the situation is most tricky.

The country, which shares a border with Russia and Ukraine, has launched a plan called "Train with the Army", a programme aimed at training civilians to defend themselves in case of armed confrontation.

According to the BBC, the training involves teaching men and women of all ages firearm handling, basic hand-to-hand combat, basic first aid, and wearing a gas mask, among others.

"We're living in dangerous times, we must be ready. Russia represents a military threat and we're preparing for it," explains Adam Sielicki, an army captain and project coordinator.

The programme is very popular among the civilian population, leading the Polish government to create new training centres and increase the budget dedicated to training all adult men in the country.
