Polish President Andrzej Duda has called on both Ukraine and Russia to make compromises in order to reach a lasting peace agreement, amid growing international pressure to bring the three-year war to an end.

His comments come shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump warned he may withdraw from his role as a mediator if neither side demonstrates a willingness to negotiate.

Poland, one of Ukraine’s strongest allies in Europe, is now urging both Moscow and Kyiv to lower their demands and seek common ground to halt the ongoing conflict.

This week, reports emerged that the U.S. is open to recognizing Crimea as part of Russia as part of a potential peace deal—a proposal swiftly rejected by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who has instead offered an unconditional ceasefire.

"It has to be a compromise. I mean, de facto, this peace should, in my personal opinion, come down to the fact that neither side will be able to say that it won this war, because each side in some sense will have to step down," Duda told Euronews on Thursday.

He added: "The war is exhausting Russia, Vladimir Putin is playing a risky game. This war is exploiting Ukraine in a terrible way. These countries want to end the war. Each of them wants to win this war—that's natural."
