According to a 2015 study by Ifop (the French Institute of Public Opinion), 13% of French people, totalling 8.5 million, are affected by baldness.
Dr Koutsomanis, a plastic and aesthetic surgeon, explains that baldness is "a loss of hair due to the toxicity of certain testosterone waste at the hair follicle level". This waste weakens the follicle and leads to premature ageing of the hair, which falls and doesn't grow back. Baldness mainly affects men (although women are also affected).
If you suffer from baldness and are wondering how to avoid this distressing hair loss (not for everyone), here is what Dr Koutsomanis recommends: do as much prevention as possible. “As soon as there are the first signs of hair loss, one must prevent more generalised loss. Some treatments have already proven their effectiveness. There are drug treatments, but not only.”
A solution that has already proven itself
Indeed, another very popular solution right now has already demonstrated its effectiveness: mesotherapy. This involves a "fertiliser injected into the scalp, which will be in direct contact with the hair follicles", says Dr Koutsomanis. This treatment provides all the hydration needed for the hair to grow well.
According to the aesthetic surgeon, two to three sessions per year would be necessary to guarantee sustainable and healthy hair growth. In cases of total baldness, only a hair transplant would be truly effective.
