Premier League champions Liverpool are set to spend £116 million to secure the signing of Florian Wirtz.

The 22-year-old midfielder leaves Bayer Leverkusen after a stellar spell under Xabi Alonso, during which the club won both the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal.

The deal includes an initial fee of £100 million to the German side, with an additional £16 million in performance-based add-ons.

Wirtz will reunite at Anfield with his former Leverkusen teammate Jeremie Frimpong, who joined Liverpool for £29.5 million after the club triggered his release clause.

The Dutch right-back has signed a five-year contract and will replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, who recently completed a move to Real Madrid.

It was pretty straightforward. Liverpool came in and showed their interest, and for me it was a no-brainer,” Frimpong told the club's official website. “I told my agents, ‘Whatever you need to do, just get this done.’“To the Liverpool fans, I’m going to give it everything — my energy, my work rate — and hopefully we can win together, celebrate together, and achieve everything together.”
