On Russian television, President Putin announced an "Easter ceasefire," but according to Ukrainian President Zelensky, Putin is only creating an "impression of a ceasefire."

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced an "Easter ceasefire" from 6:00 p.m. Saturday evening (Moscow time) until midnight on Sunday. On television, the Russian president stated that he had ordered his forces to "stop all military activities" at the front lines "for humanitarian reasons."

However, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Russia continued with shelling and attacks on the front lines on Saturday evening.

"Overall, as of Easter morning, we can state that the Russian army is attempting to create the general impression of a ceasefire, while in some areas still continuing isolated attempts to advance and inflict losses on Ukraine. Russia must fully comply with the conditions of the ceasefire," Zelensky wrote in a post on X.

"Ukraine’s proposal to implement and extend the ceasefire for 30 days after midnight tonight remains on the table. We will act in accordance with the actual situation on the ground."
