Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed words of gratitude for his North Korean counterpart Kim Jong-un.

Putin on Monday morning thanked the North Korean leader for the "assistance" in the "liberation" of the Kursk region. "We commend the bravery of the North Korean soldiers and their excellent training and commitment in the fights, shoulder to shoulder with Russian soldiers," reads an official statement from the Kremlin. "We greatly appreciate this and are extremely grateful to Comrade Kim Jong-un (...) and the North Korean people."

According to the Kremlin, the decision of North Korea to participate in the Kursk battle was driven by "a sense of solidarity, justice, and genuine comradeship". Moscow also claims that everything took place in accordance with international law.
