Cycling phenomenon Remco Evenepoel himself also doubted whether he could ever become a professional cyclist again after his serious training crash. The double Olympic champion collided with a swinging door of a Bpost vehicle in Flemish Brabant at the beginning of December 2024, suffering bruises to both lungs, a dislocated collarbone, and three fractures. He broke a rib, his right shoulder blade, and his right hand. Since then, the Belgian cyclist has been working hard on his rehabilitation. And it certainly wasn’t always easy. Fortunately, Remco found solace in Islam.

"This past year, I've really come to know it - it's something I share with Oumi", Evenepoel said at the press conference of the Brabantse Pijl with VTM Nieuws. "For me, it’s a support to get through life. It’s something beautiful. Oumi and I have prayed a lot, and it was a support during a difficult period." Evenepoel shares certain values and rituals from Islam with his wife Oumi, things that he personally finds meaningful.
