US President Donald Trump made statements on Thursday, just a few hours after reshaping the global trade landscape with the announcement of radical protectionist tariffs.

On Truth Social, the American President posted:

"THE OPERATION IS OVER! THE PATIENT SURVIVED AND IS RECOVERING. It's expected to be much stronger, bigger, better, and more resilient than ever. Let's make America great again!!!"

This is the first comment from the occupant of the White House after announcing yesterday, during what he called "Day of Liberation", the imposition of a universal tariff of 10% starting April 5, which will significantly increase for some trading partners from April 9.

According to economist Gonzalo Bernardos: "The trade war is here. Trump imposes duties of 20% on the EU and 34% on China. Soon, retaliations will occur, and probably a recession in the United States. A recession solely caused by Trump."
French President Emmanuel Macron, in consultation with the European Union, announced a trade response against the United States:

"The European response will be in two stages, because there will be a response," insisted the French president. He announced a first deadline in mid-April, with decisions that will focus "on the already decided taxes, particularly on steel and aluminium".
