The European Union has denounced Russia, showing "it doesn't want peace", and has called for pressure to be put on Russia to stop the war as it continues its aggression despite Ukraine's ceasefire proposal, which Moscow hasn't yet accepted.
"This doesn't seem to be slowing down. Since Ukraine accepted the unconditional ceasefire, Russia's attacks have only increased," stated Kaja Kallas, the high representative of the EU for foreign policy, during a press conference with the Ukrainian Prime Minister, Denis Shmigal, following the EU-Ukraine Association Council meeting.
"Russia clearly shows that it doesn't want peace. The question now is what we should do. I believe the right response is to put pressure on the one who wants the war, that is Russia, to make it want peace," said the former Estonian Prime Minister about the prospects of negotiations with Russia after the absence of concrete results.
The head of European diplomacy insisted that at this stage, Ukraine is "engaged in a war that only Russia wants to maintain" and stressed that Kyiv needs large-calibre ammunition, recalling that the EU can provide two million artillery shells, even if the 27 have not yet decided on the formula to follow.
