Russia has expressed satisfaction over reports that the United States is considering preventing Ukraine from joining NATO as part of ongoing peace negotiations.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Monday that Russia had learned through various channels that Ukraine may be barred from joining the military alliance in the future.
He added: “Of course, this is something that brings us satisfaction and aligns with our position.”
Multiple media outlets, though without official confirmation, have reported that the Trump administration is weighing the recognition of Crimea as part of Russia and a formal ban on Ukraine joining NATO — potential concessions aimed at facilitating a peace agreement.
Donald Trump has said that a deal could be reached by the end of the week. He recently warned that the U.S. may withdraw from the peace process if both sides fail to compromise.
Writing on Truth Social, Trump said: “HOPEFULLY RUSSIA AND UKRAINE WILL MAKE A DEAL THIS WEEK. BOTH WILL THEN START TO DO BIG BUSINESS WITH THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, WHICH IS THRIVING, AND MAKE A FORTUNE!”
