Russia rejects Trump's peace plan

The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister stated that this plan doesn't resolve "issues related to the root causes of the conflict."

Russia has for the first time criticised the peace plan for Ukraine proposed by American President Donald Trump. "We take very seriously the models and solutions proposed by the Americans, but we cannot accept all of this in its current form," explained the Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.

"As far as we can judge, there's currently no place for our main demand, which is the resolution of issues related to the root causes of the conflict. This is something completely missing and needs to be addressed", stated Mr Ryabkov.

For his part, Donald Trump insisted on Monday that he wanted his Russian counterpart to "reach an agreement" to end the war and reaffirmed that he was ready to impose sanctions on Moscow.
