On Thursday evening, Zaur Gurziyev (34) was killed in a targeted Ukrainian attack in the city of Stravopol. This Russian air force commander was allegedly responsible for the deaths of more than 20,000 Ukrainian civilians in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol.
He was the one who led the airstrikes on the Ukrainian city of Mariupol in the spring of 2022. Zaur Gurziyev is believed to have been responsible for the bombings of hospitals, apartment blocks, and the well-known theatre in the city.
Targeted attack with hand grenade
The body of the Russian commander Zaur Gurziyev was found by police on Chekhov Street; he was believed to have been killed by a hand grenade explosion. Social media footage shows Gurziyev as another man approaches him. The two exchange a few words, after which an explosion occurs. It is suspected to have been a suicide attack.
