Russian President Vladimir Putin has sharply criticized Donald Trump’s decision to launch strikes on multiple sites in Iran, as Moscow pledges to support Tehran during this period of heightened tensions.

Putin condemned the U.S. action as an “unprovoked act of aggression,” while Washington claimed it had “obliterated” key Iranian nuclear facilities during the operation.

According to Russian state news agency TASS, the Russian leader expressed his intent to “make efforts to help the Iranian people,” though he did not provide specific details on how Moscow plans to support the Middle Eastern nation.

Iran remains a key ally for Russia, particularly in the context of the war in Ukraine, where Tehran has supplied Shahed drones that are regularly used in attacks on Ukrainian territory.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Monday that Russia is prepared to assist Iran in a variety of ways.

Everything depends on what Iran needs. We have offered our mediation efforts. This is concrete,” he said.

In response to the U.S. strikes, Iran retaliated on Monday by targeting an American base in Qatar and has vowed to carry out further attacks in the future.
