Russia will respond to attacks from Ukraine. That's the warning issued by Russian President Vladimir Putin to his American counterpart, Donald Trump, during a telephone conversation that lasted an hour and a quarter.
This response follows the recent Ukrainian drone attack on a Russian air base. "It was a good conversation, but not one that will lead to immediate peace. President Putin stated very firmly that he would have to respond," said Mr Trump.
Additionally, the American president also indicated that they had discussed other attacks carried out by both Russians and Ukrainians during the call. The call took place a few days after the initial meetings in Istanbul between the delegations of the countries concerned.
The positions remain very far apart, with Russia claiming sovereignty over the four occupied regions and demanding early elections in Ukraine as well as a reduction of its army. These demands are unacceptable to Kyiv.
"Russia is blocking and manipulating the negotiations," said the Ukrainian side.
