She paid 800,000 euros to explore the Titanic... and now wants a refund

A wealthy heiress wanted to explore the wreck of the Titanic aboard the Titan submersible. The cost of the expedition? 800,000 euros. Now, she wants her money back.

Demanding a refund for a service not delivered is something every holidaymaker has experienced. But what about an excursion that costs this much money? Karen Lo, a Chinese-American heiress to a soy milk empire, shelled out 800,000 euros in 2018 to visit what remains of the Titanic at the bottom of the North Atlantic. It was her dream, and to fulfil it, she commissioned Cookson Adventures, a travel agency specialising in luxury expeditions worldwide, according to 20 Minutes. 

The problems? The Covid-19 pandemic got in the way, technical issues piled up, and there were repeated postponements. The final blow: the exploration was supposed to take place in the Titan submersible, which tragically sank in 2023. 

As a result, Karen Lo is still waiting for her refund.
