According to Washington, the "week is crucial" for negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.

"We're close (to an agreement), but not close enough," said the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, on NBC this Sunday. On the other hand, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a ceasefire in Ukraine this Monday, from May 8 to 10. "For humanitarian reasons, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Victory, from midnight between May 7 and 8, until midnight between May 10 and 11, the Russian side announces a ceasefire," the Kremlin said in a statement. And the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Andriï Sybiga, responded to the announcement: "Ukraine is ready to support a lasting and comprehensive ceasefire. And this is what we constantly propose, for at least 30 days."

In parallel, Donald Trump believes that Volodymyr Zelensky might be inclined to give up reclaiming Crimea occupied by the Russians. Is the Ukrainian leader really ready to give up? "I think so. Crimea, that was 12 years ago," said the American president. Moreover, Trump urged Putin to "stop shooting" and to find an agreement. "I want him to stop shooting. Sit down and sign the agreement."
