Not the kind of person that takes time to have breakfast? Is your morning routine carried out the quicker the better? No appetite when you wake up too early? An expert reveals how the body reacts when you decide to skip breakfast.

On TikTok, a dietician nicknamed Wintertok7 explains what fasting at breakfast does to the body: "Let's imagine that at 8pm you've finished eating for the night, which technically means that your fast starts at 8pm. Four hours later, at midnight, your blood sugar levels are normal. When you wake up at 6am, your digestive system is completely reset. When you finally get out of bed, you eat nothing".

Bye bye fats

And that's precisely when the transformation will take place: since you've had nothing in your stomach for more than eleven hours, your body will start to burn fat, says the media outlet Demotivateur. This burning process will accelerate around 10am. And if you opt for a sports session before that fateful moment, it's ‘even better’, says the expert. So, if your first meal of the day is at midday and consists of ‘something rich in protein, fat and fibre’, you'll reap many benefits.

Wintertok7 points out that by eating such a meal, your blood sugar levels, and therefore your insulin levels, are unlikely to rise. "You'll stay in fat-burning mode," he says.

In moderation

On the other hand, some dieticians recommend starting the day with a full breakfast. "Eating breakfast helps to kick-start your metabolism and avoid cravings," says life coach Nicci Roscoe, who also advises a focus on protein and reducing caffeine and sugar intake. She also reminds us that it's all a question of balance.
