We are certain: no one prepared for the 2007 Boston Marathon the way Suni Williams did.

The Indian-American astronaut Sunita “Suni” Williams ran the first marathon ever in space. No one had ever done that before. For the history books, her finishing time: she completed the 42.195 km on the treadmill in the International Space Station (ISS) in four hours and 24 minutes.

And the same Suni stepped back on earth on Tuesday after more than nine months. This time she conducted a space expedition with astronaut Barry “Butch” Wilmore, which was initially scheduled to last only eight days. It ultimately turned into nine long months until they could be freed.

This time she didn't run a marathon in space, but she did break the record for the longest spacewalk by a female astronaut. The 59-year-old astronaut walked no less than 62 hours in space, once again an extraordinary athletic achievement!
