Supporter dies after falling from stand during Nations League final

On Sunday evening, a supporter died during the Nations League final at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany. The man did not survive a fall from eight metres.

The incident occurred during the first half of extra time in the football tournament final between Spain and Portugal. The man fell from the central supporters’ section above the press gallery and landed eight metres below. Emergency services were unable to save the man.

The Munich police described it as a "tragic accident". The victim was a German from Garmisch-Partenkirchen, about 90 km from Munich. Both the Spanish head coach Luis de La Fuente and the Portuguese head coach Roberto Martinez expressed their condolences at the post-match press conference.
