Switzerland has announced that it would grant “immunity” to Russian President Vladimir Putin should he travel to the country for hypothetical peace negotiations with Ukraine.

The statement comes as U.S. President Donald Trump and several European leaders have recently met to discuss a potential peace plan for Ukraine. During those discussions, Trump suggested that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Putin could finally hold direct talks.

French President Emmanuel Macron hinted that Geneva could serve as a suitable venue for such negotiations, and Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis expressed openness to the idea.

We have always signaled our willingness, but it naturally depends on the will of the major powers,” Cassis said.

The minister also noted that while the International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant against Putin, Switzerland would extend diplomatic immunity if he visited for peace talks.

So far, the Kremlin has not confirmed any meeting between the two leaders.
