Tesla's sales in Europe nearly halved in April, marking another major setback for the company led by Elon Musk.

The American automaker saw a 49% year-over-year decline in sales compared to the same month last year, as it continues to face intense competition from Chinese carmakers offering high-quality electric vehicles at lower prices.

Tesla is also feeling the political repercussions of Elon Musk's role within the Trump administration. As the head of the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Musk has overseen significant staff cuts across federal agencies—a move that has drawn widespread criticism. His controversial political views, both at home and abroad, have further complicated the company’s image in international markets.

According to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association, Tesla sold 7,261 vehicles in April, down from over 14,000 during the same period last year.

Despite the sharp decline, Musk reaffirmed last week that Tesla remains committed to the European market and has no plans to withdraw.
