The Baltic leaders demand security guarantees for Ukraine before a cease-fire.
The Baltic leaders demand solid security guarantees, supported by the United States, for any ceasefire or peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia before the meeting scheduled for Monday in Washington between American President Donald Trump, his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky and senior European officials.
"Military support is essential for Ukraine to gain influence in the negotiations. Ukraine needs real security guarantees, notably the security forces supported by the United States and its own military force," Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda wrote on X after a video conference with representatives of the Coalition of Volunteers.
The Latvian Prime Minister, Evika Siliņa, published on X that "Ukraine needs security guarantees with real American military support". She also declared that Latvia shares the opinion of the Coalition of the dispositions according to which the requirements to cede Donetsk to Russia and to accord to Russia the status of the second official language in Ukraine are "unacceptable".
