The Kremlin has confirmed that Ukraine targeted the Kerch Bridge in Crimea, but insists the structure remains operational despite videos circulating online showing underwater explosions.

On Tuesday, Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) announced that it had carried out a special operation against the strategic infrastructure, which links mainland Russia to annexed Crimea. According to the SBU, the damage inflicted is “beyond repair.”

This marks the third attack on the Kerch Bridge since the beginning of the full-scale war in February 2022. The bridge is considered a vital logistical artery for the Russian military, facilitating troop and equipment movement into southern Ukraine.

For Kyiv, Crimea’s occupation is temporary. The peninsula, annexed by Russia in 2014, will be returned to Ukraine, officials say, once the war is over.

There was indeed an explosion. The bridge is operational. The Kyiv regime continues its attempts to attack civilian infrastructure. The Russian side is taking appropriate precautionary measures, based on the well-known and obvious nature of the Kyiv regime,” said Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov at a press conference.

The attack comes shortly after Ukraine’s successful ‘Spider Web’ operation, which reportedly destroyed several Russian military aircraft and dealt a significant blow to Russian air capabilities.
