The Premier League kicked off this weekend with plenty of drama, goals, and a few surprises.
Liverpool 4 - 2 Bournemouth
New signing Hugo Ekitike opened his account and Cody Gakpo doubled Liverpool’s lead, but the Reds quickly saw their advantage slip away as Antoine Semenyo struck twice for the visitors. In the end, Federico Chiesa and the inevitable Mohamed Salah came to the rescue, sealing a late win for Jürgen Klopp’s side.
Aston Villa 0 - 0 Newcastle
A goalless affair at Villa Park. Even with Ezri Konsa sent off in the 66th minute, Newcastle couldn’t find a breakthrough.
Tottenham 3 - 0 Burnley
A first win of the campaign for Spurs, who brushed aside newly promoted Burnley thanks to a Richarlison's brace and a goal from Brennan Johnson.
Brighton 1 - 1 Fulham
Matt O’Riley put Brighton ahead from the spot just before the hour mark, but Rodrigo Muniz struck late to snatch a point for Fulham.
Sunderland 3 - 0 West Ham
Back in the top flight after eight years, Sunderland made a statement with a dominant second half. Eliezer Mayenda, Daniel Ballard and Wilson Isidor all found the net in a memorable return.
Wolverhampton 0 - 4 Manchester City
Pep Guardiola’s men barely had to get out of second gear. Erling Haaland and new signing Tijjani Reijnders scored before half-time, with Haaland adding another after the break. Rayan Cherki capped off the rout with City’s fourth.
Chelsea 0 - 0 Crystal Palace
A cagey London derby ended goalless at Stamford Bridge. Eberechi Eze looked to have won it for Palace with a stunning free-kick, but the goal was eventually ruled out after a teammate was judged to have obstructed the Chelsea wall.
Nottingham Forest 3 - 1 Brentford
Forest carried on where they left off last season with a convincing win. Veteran striker Chris Wood bagged a brace, and summer signing Dan Ndoye scored on his debut. Brentford grabbed a late consolation through Igor Thiago from the spot.
Manchester United 0 - 1 Arsenal
The weekend’s marquee clash saw Arsenal leave Old Trafford with all three points. Riccardo Calafiori struck in the 13th minute after a costly mistake from United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir. Despite creating chances, United couldn’t get past David Raya in goal.
Leeds 1 - 0 Everton
In a tense affair, newly promoted Leeds earned a dream start. A controversial late penalty converted by Lukas Nmecha gave them all three points.
