The United States has announced it will no longer act as a mediator in peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, following several weeks of stalled talks.

The State Department confirmed this week that Washington is stepping back from its direct role in the process but emphasized that the U.S. still supports peace efforts, which now depend entirely on the two warring nations.

"We are not going to fly around the world at the drop of a hat to mediate meetings; that is now between the two parties, and now is the time that they need to present and develop concrete ideas about how this conflict is going to end," State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce told reporters.

Despite some initially promising discussions, Moscow and Kyiv have failed to reach common ground on a ceasefire or peace agreement.

Last week, President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned that the U.S. would withdraw from its mediating role if no progress was made.

While Trump had initially expressed optimism about the peace talks, he has since grown frustrated with the lack of results.
