Italian rescue services were busy dealing with two Belgian tourists who became trapped in a gorge during a hike to the summit of Monte Tuoro, west of Naples.
The two Brussels natives ran into trouble during the descent of the 1,424-metre-high mountain in southern Italy. They lost their way and ended up trapped in a gorge. The Belgian tourists were able to call the emergency line, after which two rescue teams from the mountain rescue services Soccorso Alpino e Speleologico Campania (CNSAS) and Scuola alpina della Guardia di Finanza (SAGF) came to their rescue. Rescuers managed to abseil down to the couple and, using ropes, evacuated them from their precarious situation. No one was injured.
