US President Donald Trump says US could kill Ayatollah Khamenei, demands unconditional surrender from Tehran.

Donald Trump surprised everyone by leaving the G-7 summit in Canada early to decide whether to join Israel in its efforts to destroy Iran's major underground nuclear facilities, or to pursue a different approach by conducting last-minute diplomacy with Tehran to try to reduce its nuclear weapon capability.

Mr. Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One that "he's looking for something better than a ceasefire and wants a real end to Iran's nuclear programme". He also threatened Iran with a "maximum response," saying, "If we are attacked in any way by Iran, the full force and might of the United States armed forces will be brought to bear on you at levels never before seen."

US officials told the Washington Post that the Pentagon is expanding its military presence in the Middle East to increase the options available to commanders should US assets in the region face a direct threat.
