The US National Security Adviser, Mike Waltz, has warned Russia and Ukraine to reach an agreement as soon as possible.
According to him, "the senseless bloodshed must end before President Donald Trump loses patience after all the time he has spent on this issue".
Mr Waltz stated that "weeks of diplomacy" have allowed the parties to understand the necessity for peace, and he emphasised that it's now that Ukraine and Russia "must act quickly".
Mr Waltz reminded that Mr Trump, in his inaugural address, expressed his desire to be remembered as a "peacemaker" president and stressed that it's within the framework of the crisis in Ukraine that these efforts "to end the senseless bloodshed have become most evident".
"Only President Trump could have brought Russia and Ukraine to the negotiating table," he wrote in an article for The National Interest on the occasion of the Republican president's first 100 days in the White House.
