Trump says Ukraine peace deal would help him 'go to heaven'

US President Donald Trump said Tuesday that a peace deal in Ukraine could increase his chances of going to heaven.

On Fox News, Donald Trump joked that his chances of achieving glory were currently slim. The Republican president had previously stated his desire to end the war between Russia and Ukraine as part of his ambition to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

But a day after hosting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the leaders of several European nations at the White House, Trump affirmed that his motives were not solely earthly.

"I want to try to get to heaven if I can," Trump said on Fox News' "Fox & Friends."

"I heard I'm not doing well, that I'm at the bottom of the hierarchy! But if I get to heaven, that will be one of the reasons."

So for Trump, achieving peace in the Russia-Ukraine conflict would not only be good for the world, but would also be a moral act.
