The option of an American base in Anchorage meets security, logistical and relative neutrality requirements, with Alaska also offering particular geographical symbolism due to its proximity to Russia via the Bering Strait.

According to CNN, Vladimir Putin is reportedly being hosted and cared for at a US military facility for official exchanges, sending a signal of maximum security control, direct bilateral management, and a highly symbolic diplomatic dimension.

The last time Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin met was in Helsinki in July 2018. This Friday, US President Donald Trump will meet in person with Russian President Vladimir Putin at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska, a White House spokesperson announced.

Trump's visit will last one day. According to spokesperson Caroline Levitt, the meeting will be a "listening session" so that Trump "better understands Russia's plans" and possible ways to end the war in Ukraine. The two men are expected to hold private talks.
