Trump wants control of Ukraine's nuclear power plants

President Donald Trump spoke by phone with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday and proposed that the United States take possession of Ukraine's power plants.

For Donald Trump, this would be the "best possible protection and support". The Ukrainian head of state indicated readiness to suspend attacks against civilian and energy infrastructure in Russia, after Russian President Vladimir Putin committed on Tuesday to temporarily preserve the energy sector during a phone conversation with Mr. Trump.

"One of the first steps towards ending the war could be to suspend attacks on energy infrastructure and other civilian infrastructure," the Ukrainian leader declared on the X network.

He specified that only "a power plant, which is under Russian occupation", namely Zaporizhia in the southeast, was mentioned during the conversation.
