US President Donald Trump has announced his latest idea: he is considering launching a programme aimed at paying undocumented immigrants to "voluntarily" leave the country.

In an interview with Fox News, Donald Trump stated: "We want to set up a self-deportation programme. I haven't determined what we're going to do yet, but we're going to provide financial assistance. We're going to give them money and a plane ticket and we will work with them."

For now, this plan is still in its early stages, and the amount they would receive has not yet been determined. A departure from the country which, according to Trump, may not be permanent. "If they're good, if we want them to come back, we will work with them to return legally as soon as possible,” he said.

Upon his arrival at the White House, Trump had promised to carry out the largest deportation of undocumented immigrants in the country's history and to strengthen military presence in the border areas with Mexico.
