In broad daylight on Thursday, 1 May at around 17:45, a man with Turkish nationality was shot dead at close range while enjoying a drink on the terrace of a hotel in Rijswijk, South Holland, on Van Vredenburchweg.
The man died on the spot, the shooter fled on foot and is missing without a trace. The shooter is described as a man of about 1.80m with a normal to solid build, with a beard and black clothing. A Major Investigation Team has been launched.
According to De Telegraaf, citing various Turkish sources, the victim turns out to be Cemil Önal, a notorious Turkish murder suspect with many enemies in the highest political circles. The man is suspected of being the mastermind behind the murder of a gambling boss in Turkey-controlled Northern Cyprus. Önal also claimed to possess tapes with compromising footage of high-ranking Turkish politicians from President Erdogan's party, it is said.
