U.S. Vice President JD Vance has accused Denmark of poor management of Greenland, arguing that the territory remains vulnerable to incursions from Russia or China.
During his speech, Vance downplayed Donald Trump’s threats against the Danish-controlled territory, including the possibility of a U.S. military invasion of Greenland.
A poll conducted in January revealed that the majority of Greenlanders reject any form of U.S. annexation.
"Our message to Denmark is very simple. You have not done a good job by the people of Greenland. You have under-invested in the people of Greenland and you have under-invested in the security of this incredible, beautiful landmass," Vance said.
The vice president also claimed that the United States is the only country that truly respects Greenland’s "sovereignty" and "security."
Vance’s remarks prompted a response from Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, who firmly said that Greenland has never been neglected by the Danish government.
