The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) reported on Tuesday that it had bombed the road and railway bridge between Russia and the Crimean peninsula from underwater with explosives.
No less than 1,100 kilograms of explosives are said to have been used in the Ukrainian underwater attack. The explosions happened early on Tuesday morning, according to Messages from the SBU on Telegram.
The underwater pillars of the bridge, which serves as an important supply route for Russian troops in Ukraine, were heavily damaged in the attack.
"We hit the Crimea bridge twice before, in 2022 and 2023. Today, we have continued this tradition underwater," states Lieutenant General Vasyl Malyuk – the head of the Ukrainian Security Service, on Telegram. "Illegal Russian facilities have no place on the territory of our state. Therefore, the Crimea bridge is a perfectly legitimate target, especially since the enemy used that bridge as a logistics artery to supply its troops. Crimea is Ukraine, and any form of occupation will provoke a harsh response from us."
