Ukraine has approved a new plan offering financial rewards of up to $2,400 per month to any civilian volunteer willing to track and destroy Russian drones.
The measure, passed midweek by Ukrainian lawmakers, allows any citizen to engage drones using any available means, as part of an effort to bolster the country's aerial defenses amid ongoing Russian attacks.
The proposed compensation is considered generous in Ukraine, where the average monthly salary stood at just $353 prior to the outbreak of the war in February 2022.
This initiative is designed to support the military in protecting Ukrainian airspace, particularly as the country faces shortages of advanced air defense systems.
Kyiv introduced the plan in response to a recent surge in Russian drone attacks. The law will remain in effect for two years or until martial law is lifted by the government, whichever comes first.
