Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced in his address to the nation last night that a domestically-made drone capable of reaching targets 3,000 kilometres away had been successfully tested.

Mr. Zelensky reported successful use of the Ukrainian Neptune missile. "We can say that we're satisfied with the results of the attack," he stated without giving further details.

The Neptune missile is based on an anti-ship weapon developed during the Soviet era. Kyiv has continued to perfect this weapon so that it can be used against land targets. Last year, the Ukrainian military announced its intention to increase the range of Neptune from 300 to 1,000 kilometres.

Ukraine is doubling the production capacity of its military industry, focusing on drones and long-range missiles. Kyiv is seeking to reduce its reliance on other countries for armaments in order to defend against Russia.
