Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned Vladimir Putin’s refusal to engage in peace talks, calling on Western nations to impose new economic sanctions to cripple Russia’s war efforts.

The statement came after Russia launched a massive and unprecedented assault over the weekend, deploying nearly 300 drones and numerous missiles in coordinated strikes across Ukrainian territory.

This large-scale offensive occurred as peace negotiations between the two neighbors remain stalled, despite repeated efforts by U.S. diplomats to reignite dialogue.

“This does not make any significant military sense, but it does make significant political sense. In this way, Putin demonstrates how much he despises the world, which spends more effort on dialogue with him than on pressure,” Zelenskyy wrote on social media.

Despite the grim outlook, Zelenskyy insisted that Moscow can still be stopped—if bold measures are taken, particularly by targeting Russia’s oil and gas exports.

“The increase in Russian strikes should be responded to by increasing sanctions. Russia's disregard for diplomacy and refusal to even cease fire must be met with blocking Russian finances and trade in Russian oil. I thank everyone in the world who is pushing this strong agenda. Russia must end its own war. And for this to happen, we need to deprive them of the resources to fight,” the president added.
